I definitely think the Wired write-up is having an effect!
Wow!
The First Review: Paul at Small Town Living “…knew [he] was going to love it.”
Well, this is a great way to start! Paul David Wilson on the blog/site Small Town Living has posted the first ever review of Geek Dad, and he was tremendously positive:
I knew as soon as I saw the cover of “Geek Dad; Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share”(Ken Denmead/Gotham Books) that I was going to love it.
Right below the title were pictures of a rocket ship, a telescope, a dragon, and a twenty-sided dice (used for role playing playing games like Dungeon and Dragons!)
I am a self-professed geek, and having kids of my own, I welcome the opportunity to indoctrinate them into “Geek-dom.”
Please go and read the review and give them some traffic and feedback. I’m so happy!
Oh Canada!
*tap* *tap* Check, check… Jerry, pull out the high end, I’m getting some hiss back here.
Hello, human beings! For those that don’t know me, I’m Dave- your humble Geekdadbookwebsite- or Geek Dad Book Website, depending on who you ask- administrator, forum master, and roundabout Canadian influence. For those looking to learn more, I’d direct you to here on the forums, whereupon I will BLOW YOUR MIND.
(And, uh, ignore that we don’t have any other topics, I’m working on that. The book’s not out yet, so I’m still being lazy. Either that, or Ken’s cheque bounced.)
I haven’t posted on the front page yet, but it’s high time I do so, with T-minus one month until launch of the book, and this thing destined to get huge and make Ken fabulously wealthy. I’m excited, as you all should be.
For the kind of content that’s actually useful to the website, I direct you to the biggest Canadian bookstore chain, Chapters, proudly selling the book online here! If you’re Canadian, and you haven’t ordered, then I’m not really sure we can be friends. Well, maybe.
Catch you later, folks.
A Plug in Publishers Weekly
Saw this in my Google Alerts today from Publishers Weekly. Looks like the PR bandwidth is ramping up:
Also along “awesome” lines is Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share (May) by Ken Denmead, writer of Wired’s popular blog of the same name. According to Gotham/Avery editorial director Megan Newman, “This is for the new dad whose nostalgia is not for his old Flexible Flyer or Little League mitt, but who instead wants to share with his kids the geeky things that informed his childhood: video games, Star Wars, and anything electronic.”
First GeekDad Book Signing Scheduled
It’s important to do it yourself sometimes, so this weekend with family in tow, I walked into our local Borders Books. “Hello, I have a book coming out,” I said to a woman who was aptly named Joy. She was totally enthusiastic to get me signed up, and so I will be holding my first ever book signing at the Fremont Borders on Saturday, May 8th, from 2-4pm. As the Doctor might say, “Fantastic!”
Pre-Orders! We Have Pre-Orders!
Watching the Amazon sales rank float up and down every day, it was driving my crazy wondering what the numbers meant in terms of actual pre-orders for the book. Yesterday I had one of those “duh” moments when I realized that, since 99% of the action must be coming through the link on GeekDad, and since that link goes through my Amazon Affiliate account, I could run an Orders report to see what the numbers actually are. So, here we are! From the start of the year, there have been 170 pre-orders for the book. And over 16k click-thrus! Woo-hoo!
Testing a Theory
The Galleys Are In!
Now Available for Pre-Order in the UK!
Geek Dad is now available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk! Now how do I get an affiliates account there? And any bookstores in the U.K. that want to fly me (and my family) out for an appearance are VERY WELCOME TO CONTACT ME!
