I love that the cover is an illustration of the light-up kit project! It’s also very cool that the publisher is using this as an excuse to start their own dad-projects blog, tatageek.cz. Hope we’ll get to meet all sorts of geeky Czech dads!

Amazing Video of the Tethered Balloon Camera Project
Tom Heck is a great maker, and pulled off one of the best versions of the tethered balloon camera project from the first Geek Dad book that we’ve seen yet. WELL DONE SIR!
Geek Dad Books 2 & 3 Sold to Russia
Finally, some foreign rights love for the newer books! The Russians have purchased rights to publish “The Geek Dad’s Guide to Weekend Fun,” and “The Geek Dad Book for Aspiring Mad Scientists,” on top of the already-in-the-works Russian version of “Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share.” Spasiba!
Geek Dad to be Published in the Czech Republic!
Pretty amazing, really! I received news yesterday that a publisher in the Czech Republic has offered (and we accepted) to purchase the rights to publish Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share. I’m chuffed! This is the 5th non-American language the book is being translated into. Though I do have to worry a bit. A quick Google Translate shows that “Dad” in Czech is “Tata.” Ahem…
Geek Dad Books Spotted at @powells on @boingboing!
I follow BoingBoing.net religiously, as they are a purveyor of all things cool, underground, Make-y, and more. So how delighted was I to see this image in a recent post by Mark Frauenfelder, relaying a report from Bob Knetzger about his discovery of a very Maker-friendly section of one of Powell’s bookstores in Portland? If you look closely, on the first row of the bookshelf under the line of Make Magazines, you can very clearly see a couple of my Geek Dad books! Time to do the geek dance!
Book #1 (aka the “Red Book”) Makes Craft’s Holiday Gift Guide
The lovely folks over at Craft have put out a great book list gift guide, and been kind enough to include Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Parents and Kids to Share on the list.
Have a great dad (or uncle, or big brother) on your list? This book is full of ideas for fun, nerdy projects that will let them completely geek out with the kids!
BookDads says “If there’s a series of books I would recommend as a must-have for all dads, it would have to be the Geek Dad books.”
Just a wonderful review of the new book by Chris Singer over at BookDads.com:
Ken Denmead keeps raising the bar with each installment in this series. I can’t wait to see where the next one takes us (please tell me there’s going to be more!!).
Fantastic Review of “Mad Scientist” on FatherGeek
This kind of review just makes me happy. Thanks so much!
Once again, Denmead has compiled a wonderful list of activities for the family. My little geeks and I have had a great time reading and completing them together. The real joy of this book comes from working and learning as a family and sharing your observations and enthusiasm. I have barely scratched the surface of what this book has to offer and look forward to completing the more complex projects with my little geeks. Until I do, we are enjoying the easier experiments and learning, laughing, and enjoying every moment in wonder and excitement.
